General Learning Objectives for all Classes

·   Describe how to recognize and handle an emergency.

·   Explain how to check the scene for safety and the victim for consciousness.

·   What consent means and how to obtain consent in an emergency involving an adult, child or infant;

·   Explain when and how to move a victim from a dangerous scene.

·   Describe when to call and how to interact with the emergency medical services (EMS) system.

·   Explain why and how to apply basic precautions to reduce the risk of disease transmission   during and after providing care.

·   Describe how to prioritize care for life-threatening injuries or sudden illnesses.

·   Describe how to check a conscious victim for life and non-life threatening conditions.

 

Certification Requirements

·   Attend and participate in all course sessions;

·   Demonstrate competency in all required skills

·   Correctly answer at least 80 percent of the questions of the final exam

 

Course  Adult CPR  **

This course gives individuals the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for breathing emergencies; perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation for victims of sudden cardiac arrest; treat and minimize the effects of shock; recognize emergencies and take action; and understand the role of AEDs in the Cardiac Chain of Survival.  Adult CPR is designed to treat victims ages 8 and older.

Course   First Aid  **

Designed to give individuals the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and give basic care for injuries and sudden illnesses.  Skills practiced include bandaging, splinting, head immobilization and glove removal.

Course Standard First Aid **

This course combines the skills and knowledge taught in Adult CPR and First Aid classes

Prerequisites:     None

Course: Infant and Child CPR **

Designed for childcare providers, teachers, parents and others who care for children.  This course teaches participants how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in infants and children up to 18 years of age.

Course: Infant/Child CPR and First Aid **

This course is designed for childcare providers, teachers, parents, babysitters and others who care for children. The course teaches participants how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in infants and children up to 8 years of age. It also teaches the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide basic first aid care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrive and take over.

Course: Adult CPR plus Infant and Child CPR **

Combines CPR and first aid training to teach participants to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in infants, children and adults; treat and minimize the effects of shock; recognize emergencies and take action; and understand the role of AEDs in the Cardiac Chain of Survival.

Course: AED Essentials 

For individuals already certified in CPR who want to add AED skills.  This course teaches the importance of an AED in the "Cardiac Chain of Survival".  Legal requirements of owning/using an AED.  Hands-on practice using an AED.

Length:     Approximately 1 ½ hour

Course: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer

Combines participant’s manual, lectures and video with hands-on skills training to cover recognizing and responding to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants; two-rescuer CPR; use of body substance isolation precautions to prevent disease transmission; use of resuscitation and bag-valve masks; use of an AED for a victim of sudden cardiac arrest.

Course:  Bloodborne Pathogens

This course is designed to train and provide individuals with an understanding of the intent of the bloodborne pathogens regulation (1910.1030) issued by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Prerequisites:     None

Course: Instructor Trainer Course
This course certifies indivduals in CPR/FA/AED in the first day.  The second day is spend in covering the fundamentals for instrution.  Each participant will teach sections of an actual class.
Prerequisites: None
Length: 3-4 days depending on class size

Review Class:

Students will have an opportunity to review the videos and ask the instructor questions before being tested on material and skills.  Individuals who do not pass the written and/or skills test will need to enroll in a full class and will forfeit the class fee.

Prerequisites:     Must have current certification in course taking

Length:     Approximately 2.5 hours

 

 

Challenge Class:

The purpose of a challenge course is to allow students who are comfortable with the information and skills to test out without sitting through a full class. There will be no instruction or assistance from the instructor during the test or skill demonstration.  Individuals who do not pass the written and/or skills test will need to enroll in a full class and will forfeit the challenge fee.

COURSE: Workplace Training - Workplace Violence Awareness

Purpose To give individuals in the workplace the knowledge necessary to identify and reduce the risk of workplace violence

Learning Objectives:

·   Explain how to recognize the categories of workplace violence;

·   Explain how to identify warning signals of potential workplace violence; and

·   Explain how to reduce their risk of becoming a victim of workplace violence.

Length:     Approximately 1 hour

Certification Requirements:

Attend and participate in all module activities and discussions and complete the module self–assessment.

COURSE: Workplace Training - Slips, Trips, & Falls

Purpose To give individuals in the workplace the knowledge and skills necessary to identify and reduce the risks of slips, trips, and falls.

Learning Objectives

·   Explain how safety awareness can help reduce the risk of slips, trips, or falls in the workplace;

·   Describe how to identify and correct unsafe conditions in the workplace;

·   Describe how to identify and correct unsafe behaviors in the workplace;

·   Explain how to maintain balance when performing tasks to help prevent slips, trips, and falls; and

·   Describe how to develop a prevention plan.

COURSE: Workplace Training - Back Injury Prevention

Purpose To give individuals in the workplace the knowledge necessary to identify and reduce the risk of back injury

Learning Objectives:

·   Explain how to identify and reduce risk factors for back injury;

·    Demonstrate or describe how to perform simple exercises for stretching and strengthening neck and back muscles to help prevent back injury; and

    ·    Explain how to change personal habits to avoid back injury.

Length:     Approximately 1 hour

Certification Requirements:

Attend and participate in all module activities and discussions and complete the module self–assessment.
